JC Earl, a pseudonym for Julien Cadou, is a French multidisciplinary artist, concurrently graphic artist, sculptor, illustrator and painter. He cut his teeth and developed his own style in Parisian graffiti circles, in particular within the “Va au Diable” (VAD) [Go to Hell] Group. He has preserved a great sense of spontaneity from that period, as well as an attraction to the aesthetics of accident and imperfection. It is for that matter that imperfection that underlies his distinctive trait, which gives expression to his characters.
He has been doing ceramics since the age of 8, when he made his own toys. He lost sight of this technique for a long time, but returned to it in 1995 during a long convalescence following an accident in the underground. Ceramics will then assume an introspective role in his career. JC Earl has since been developing characters with a strong, provoking and authentic aesthetic.

JC Earl, pseudonyme de Julien Cadou, est un artiste français multidisciplinaire. Il est à la fois graphiste, sculpteur, illustrateur et peintre. Il a fait ses armes et développé son propre style dans le milieu du graffiti parisien, notamment au sein du groupe VAD, « Va Au Diable ». De cette époque, il a gardé une grande spontanéité dans le geste ainsi qu’une attirance pour l’esthétique de l’accident et de l’imperfection. C’est d’ailleurs cette imperfection qui est à la base de son trait, c’est elle qui donne de l’expressivité à ses personnages.
Sa pratique de la céramique remonte à l’âge de 8 ans, lorsqu’il façonnait ses propres jouets. Longtemps perdue de vue, il renoue avec cette technique en 1995 pendant une longue convalescence suite à un accident dans le métro. La céramique va alors prendre un rôle introspectif au sein de son parcours. Earl développe dès lors des personnages à l’esthétique forte, provocatrice et authentique.

JC Earl, in het gewone leven Julien Cadou, is een multidisciplinair Frans kunstenaar. Hij is graficus, beeldhouwer, illustrator en schilder tegelijk. Hij leerde het vak en ontwikkelde zijn eigen stijl in het Parijse graffitimilieu, waar hij deel uitmaakte van de groep VAD ofwel “Va Au Diable” (“loop naar de duivel”). Hij heeft aan die periode zijn uiterst spontane insteek overgehouden, evenals een zin voor de esthetiek van het toeval en de imperfectie. Die imperfectie vormt de basis van zijn werkwijze en verleent zijn personages hun expressiviteit.
Met keramiek ging hij al op 8-jarige leeftijd aan het werk. Hij maakte toen zijn eigen speelgoed. Hij liet die techniek daarna lange tijd links liggen, maar ging er in 1995 weer mee aan de slag tijdens zijn lange herstelperiode na een metro-ongeval. Keramiek speelt sindsdien een introspectieve rol binnen zijn parcours. Earl creëert personages met een sterke esthetiek en een authenticiteit die aanspreekt.
